ABYDOS GUILDS

The Eye of Abydos, our constitution, requires us to maintain just six guilds for use in Abydos. Each guild acts as a faction for people to join and each in some way enhances the Abydos government or overall player experience. Each guild has its own section, with registration, information, restrictions, and various events and activities. New nations in Abydos are strongly encouraged to visit the Citizens Guild first as all other guilds require membership in the Citizens Guild.

GUILD HISTORY

  • The Oracles Guild is the oldest guild in Abydos, and its early history is nebulous. With no official laws in the early days of the region, the Oracles Guild was ran largely out of tradition and new ideas. Early history celebrated the uniqueness of the institution, while the Oracles Guild itself initially struggled in 2018 to find its voice. After the ratification of the Eye of Abydos, the Oracles Guild would gain a new foothold on the region, and its growth would be quickened.

During the reign of Grand Luxarch Zyris, on April 16, 2018, the nation of Yaqobia was appointed the Oracle of Abydos. Yaqobia is the oldest known nation to have resided in Abydos, and thus the title was fitting. Zyris described the tasks of the Oracle of Abydos as: This position will have the sole task of teaching these Axioms to new nations, promoting them, talking about them and reminding us of them when we steer away from them. The Oracle thus acts somewhat like a cultural minister and promotes our culture and ways, and explores various interpretations. It shall be the task of the Grand Luxarch to appoint an Oracle for the duration of their term with the blessings of both Emperors or keep the previously appointed Oracle. Should the Oracle resign or die, or be removed by the Grand Luxarch, a new one can be appointed.

It is unclear exactly when, but increasingly the Oracle of Abydos would speak up on issues and use the Abydos Axioms to interpret the issue. With this, Yaqobia transformed the Oracles Guild into one that acts as a sort of 'supreme court' for Abydos. From there, the idea of the Grand Luxarch removing an Oracle lessened, while the idea of an Oracle remaining in office for life grew. This was unknowingly tested when Grand Luxarch Zyris resigned on August 17th, 2018 and appointing Grand Luxarch Hydoria as his successor. By August 21, 2018, Grand Luxarch Hydoria signed a Decree, allowing Zyris to join the Oracles Guild with the blessing of Yaqobia, and it was approved.

With High Oracle Yaqobia and Oracle Zyris now the sole members of the Oracles Guild, Yaqobia would build the Oracle Guilds first page. Zyris began a publication called The Oracles Overture and would make periodic parody news stories about Abydos. See Issues III & III.

On November 4, 2018 after his resignation, Grand Luxarch Hydoria himself was invited into the Oracles Guild by Yaqobia and Zyris, making Hydoria the guilds third member. Under the leadership of our third Grand Luxarch, Ancient Greek KingdomsZyris proposed several drafts of what would become the Eye of Abydos, and helped to cement the role of the Oracles Guild into the modern Abydos government.

GUILD HISTORY

  • Prior to the ratification of the Eye of Abydos in December 2018, the region of Abydos did not have any formal process for citizenship or for the creation of regional political parties. Under the terms of Grand Luxarch Zyris and Hydoria, little work was achieved in building up a large base of citizens. The first High Priest, Requiemis, (who had been known as the Abydos President prior to ratification) likewise did not seek to build up citizens organizations or parties. After Grand Luxarch Ancient Greek Kingdoms was appointed, Zyris began work on drafting a formal Abydos constitution, and with it a new Citizens Guild.
