ARTICLE SEVEN
THE HIGH PRIEST

  • §7.1. High Priests Term

    • The High Priest (or alternatively, High Priestess) shall be elected on the 10th day of the months of January, May, and September, with one complete term being four months in length or within 5 days of the resignation, impeachment, or nations death of a current High Priest if fewer than 20 days remain until the next scheduled election. A nation may serve an unlimited number of terms as High Priest, but shall serve no more than three of those terms consecutively. Any citizen may campaign for High Priest who has maintained citizenship for at least 30 days.

     

    §7.2. Priestly Duties

    • The High Priest shall be tasked with signing or vetoing any law ratified by the Conclave, act as tie breaker to the Conclave in any vote which ends in a tie, and reviewing and organizing all laws. The High Priest shall also address the citizens of Abydos periodically with the state of the region as well as provide an agenda for the future. The High Priest shall appoint two Selected Scribes to represent the will or party of the High Priest on the Conclave. The High Priest shall not be granted right to create additional offices, or use the position to issue or execute law.

     

    §7.3. Foreign Responsibilities

    • The High Priest shall work directly with the Grand Luxarch to develop a reasonable foreign policy for Abydos for the purpose of maintaining good relations with foreign regions beyond that of the standard embassy exchange. The High Priest shall not enter into any alliance, agreement, or treaty with a foreign power without the presence of the Grand Luxarch, nor raise or conduct military or intelligence operations on behalf of Abydos.

     

    §7.4. Cultural Responsibilities

    • The High Priest shall seek council with the Abydos Oracles on any contribution, modification, or interpretation of the general cultural identity of Abydos as it pertains to the Abydos Axioms, historic precident, or other traditional work.

     

    §7.5. Impeachment

    • The High Priest, if found guilty under the law, shall be impeached through a vote exceeding 50% by the Conclave. A High Priest who has been impeached shall not be eligible to be elected again for the office for the next two scheduled terms. A High Priest whose nation has died, been inactive for a period of 14 consecutive days, calls for the abolishment or modification of the Abydos Axioms, or otherwise is found by the Conclave to be unfit for duty, shall trigger an investigation by the Conclave and may be subject to impeachment.
